The Gift Process Starts Here
It all starts with our thought process. One of my favorite beliefs is that every day is a new opportunity to change my own mind. Speaking positive words to yourself can break through barriers of depression and self-doubt. You may not like how you look, but the woulda coulda and shoulda syndrome that plagues your thoughts can be relentlessly ongoing. These self-defeating thoughts come with repercussions. They rob you of joy and affect not just your mind, but your physical body as well.
Treating Yourself as a Gift
Treating yourself as a gift encompasses many avenues. Your health is a gift. What you do to it today, affects tomorrow. I haven’t always been nice to my body, so thank goodness some of our body’s cells regenerate daily. However, getting older is no laughing matter. It takes focus, determination and a certain amount of good humor to deter and effect the ravages of times intended consequences. So taking control of your health and getting regular checkups becomes increasingly important. If your ticker isn’t ticking right or you have some unexplained pain; don’t just brush it off. Early prevention is the key. When you see your health professional, take the opportunity to ask questions and get complete answers. Be certain you understand the answers.
Nutrition is a huge contributor to your good health. It is a huge gift that will pay long term dividends. Everyone loves scrumptious and delectable foods. I know I do! But continuous over indulgences or not eating enough of the right foods is equally detrimental for your health.
We quarrel about eating processed foods and endlessly obsess about eating organic and non GMO foods. People not so long ago lived shorter lives in comparison to the average age of current day adults, which is 78.4. This is per the United States of America Life Expectancy chart which was conducted in 2012. In 1960, it was 69.7 years. Fitness and nutrition go hand in hand. Nutrition is 80% and fitness is 20% in regards to weight loss. Over the years, I have changed the way I look at food. Our bodies are an intricate biological system created to run efficiently. Food is meant to be purely fuel to keep us running optimally.
Fitness as a gift? I know this sounds crazy, but ask a person who can’t walk if being able to walk is a gift. Exercise creates happy endorphins,
and improves both mood and your sleep. It doesn’t hurt your sex life either! But it takes action, and you don’t have time right? Ask yourself if you have time to be sick, or worse yet, create a path toward a shorter life.
Wealth and Finance
Wealth and Finance is a gift that keeps on giving. I was never one to save and that hasn’t gotten me much saved for a rainy day, let alone a quicker than expected approaching retirement. However, it’s never too late to start. Carpe Diem. Seize the Day! Whether you choose to invest in furthering your education, saving for a needed vacation, or starting a retirement fund, the premise is that you are investing in yourself. Plant good seeds for your future. Undeniably this means some of the indulgences we love so much will have to be curtailed. The greater good always demands some form of sacrifice, darnit. So cut back on the
Carmel Macchiatos and pedicures. If you spend a minute with a calculator and you will see the impact of these fripperies on your bottom line. I LOVE shopping, it’s the thrill of the chase!
However, before I go on a trek, I try to do an inventory of my closet so I don’t get caught up buying something similar. If you liked it the first time you bought it, you will be attracted to the same pieces again, which results in duplications in the closet. That’s just money on a hanger instead of your pocket! I finally got the bright idea to purchase a clothing color wheel.
Now I can match different hues from my closet so that I shop in my closet, instead of the mall. If it doesn’t fit any longer, I can always sell my items on a list of sites for people just like me looking for a good buy. Selling equals more capital. Being a gift to yourself can be lucrative. You can always earmark that reselling money for a different account you start for purchasing bigger ticket items, or investing.

More importantly, being a gift to your mental well-being is the central key. “Set your mind on things above, not on things of the earth” (Col 3:2, Rom 12:16). How can the machine run well, when you don’t appreciate its worth? Never speak words of discouragement over yourself. You are your own best friend, and friends are meant to be uplifting. Every day we open our eyes to new possibilities and can realize that being a part of this grand scheme is a gift we need to embrace. Pray and meditate. It doesn’t take much time, and the gift of clarity and calmness will be an ongoing gift to yourself.
Giving and Receiving
Being a gift to yourself means loving without limits, and loving others as you want to be loved. Gifts are for giving….and receiving. Surround yourself with love and people that you appreciate, and those who appreciate you. Life is short, but love is everlasting, and is the gift that truly keeps on giving.
Start unwrapping your gifts everyday with anticipation of something awesome to come! So many possibilities and gifts are yet to be given and received. We are all in this together, so appreciate the beautiful gifts you have been given to share for the abundance of all. Don’t be stingy!
